Regular hours are 6:00A - 10:30P daily.
Boedecker Bluff Natural Area is located in west Loveland, along the north shore of Boedecker Reservoir on W. 1st St. A pedestrian-activated signal and crosswalk at Rossum Drive provide walk-in access to the site. On-street parking is available in nearby neighborhoods where permitted.
The natural area offers one mile of natural-surface trails along the edge of the reservoir with opportunities for bird-watching, wildlife viewing and scenic lake and mountain views. Native trees and shrubs, including cottonwood, chokecherry, wild rose and currant offer diverse habitat for songbirds, raptors, small mammals and amphibians.
Leashed dogs are welcome, owners must pick up and remove pet waste; doggie bags and a trash can are provided. The trailhead entry area also includes a kiosk with map and site information.
City of Loveland Open Lands and Trails offer free access. However, all access to the water of Boedecker Reservoir is managed by Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) and requires a CPW license or State Wildlife Area pass. Kayaks, SUP-boards, and other wakeless boats allowed in the SWA must be launched from the CPW parking lot on County Road 21.
The 17-acre natural area was purchased in 2017 as a buffer to nearby residential development, for wildlife using the reservoir and adjacent habitat, and as a neighborhood natural area. Trails were constructed with volunteer assistance from the Colorado Association of Trail Stewards (CATS) and local employees from BioLife.
Boedecker Bluff Natural Area was named with input from the public in 2018. Based on names submitted, the Open Lands Advisory Commission selected Boedecker Bluff for the site's setting on a bluff above Boedecker Reservoir.
