Under Colorado law, every person has a right to access government public records. Not all records are public, and you may need to pay a fee to get them. Learn more below.

Colorado Open Records Act (CORA)

Our goal is to ensure prompt and equitable service to customers requesting access to public records. It is our policy to make public records available for inspection at reasonable times unless such records are protected from disclosure by law.

About the Process

Find a step-by-step explanation below of how to submit a request, what happens once your request is received, and how you can expect to receive the requested information.

  1. Prepare and submit your request. A request can be made via email, mail, or through an online form (more information below), or in person at the City Clerk’s Office. The request must clearly identify the documents desired and include any specific details that can help the City in identifying the records.
  2. The City processes your request. Once the request is received, the City reviews it to determine if there are responsive records or seeks clarification of the request, if needed. Pursuant to the Colorado Open Records Act, records requests are processed within three working days; unless extenuating circumstances exist. In such instances, the processing time may be extended to up to ten working days total. Requests that require more than an hour to process will be charged an hourly fee after the first hour.
  3. Delivery of records. The City will deliver records responsive to a request digitally or, upon request, as physical copies for a small fee. If some records are exempt from disclosure by law, the City will provide a justification for  their exclusion.
