Project Background
After utilizing the Larimer County Food Bank for six years, City of Loveland Transit (COLT) will officially call W. 37th Street and Garfield Avenue the Loveland Transit Center home.
A location study was conducted in 2016 that presented several options for where the transit center would be built. In March 2018, the City acquired the 3.86-acre property at W. 37th Street and Garfield Avenue as the official location. The location was determined by the ease of access from US 287, as well as closeness to the current transfer station and FLEX routes.
Due to timing of the lease agreement with the Food Bank ending in 2023, increased ridership and to provide the best accommodations for riders, City staff quickly moved on the construction after City Council approved funding for Phase 1 on Feb. 21, 2023.
- Phase 1:
- Construct surface improvements to create a long-term transfer facility to address the growing needs of the local and regional bus routes.
- Provide a Park-N-Ride facility for Loveland transit users who currently drive to Fort Collins to use their transit/parking facility.
- Construction will include:
- A parking lot with 88 spaces.
- A concrete island large enough to accommodate eight buses.
- Landscaping, as well as curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements.
- Underground infrastructure to support hybrid and electric buses and to prepare for Phase 2 construction.
- Phase 2:
- Applied for grants and was funding to complete Phase 2 - July 2024.
