The Youth Cadets Program is a law enforcement career orientation program co-sponsored by the Loveland Police Department and Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado (LEEPAAC).  It is a program whereby teens and young adults are allowed to become familiar and participate in law enforcement activities in a non-hazardous capacity. Youth Cadets are acquainted with the ideals, knowledge and philosophies of law enforcement. Some of the training they receive is in traffic stops, crash investigation, pedestrian contacts, high-risk calls, crisis intervention, community policing principles, officer/youth cadet safety and the foundation of policy, law and ethics. The program provides the cadet the opportunity to participate in community service programs while considering a prospective career in law enforcement. Youth Cadets compete in local and national competitions across the country, which test their acquired law enforcement training and skills.  In addition, Youth Cadets assist in directing traffic, gate security, parking, and other various tasks at special events within the immediate community and outside community events as requested.  Youth Cadets also complete required ride along with certified police officers in an observation role to further their knowledge and receive training first hand.

If you are interested in joining, please contact the program lead advisor.

Requirements

Youth Cadets are required to attend one monthly meeting (1-2 hours) and training (4-5 hours).   In addition, they are also called upon to work various special events during the year.  A two week Youth Cadet academy is held once a year and all program members are required to attend the training courses hosted by LPD or LEEPAAC affiliated agencies.  Youth Cadets are required to complete a probationary period of three months in order to determine the suitability for the applicant.  All the uniform and equipment is provided by the program, excluding boots.
