The Loveland Police Department’s Professional Standards Unit (PSU) is comprised of Internal Affairs, CALEA Accreditation, Hiring, Human Resources, and Training. Under the oversight of an Assistant Chief, PSU is supported by dedicated personnel including a Police Lieutenant, Internal Affairs Sergeant, Training Sergeant, CALEA Accreditation Manager, and an HR Generalist. PSU plays a pivotal role in upholding the highest levels of standards, professionalism, training, and accountability within the Loveland Police Department.

Key Responsibilities of PSU include:

• Compliments and Complaints. Facilitating feedback from the community and ensuring all concerns are addressed promptly and fairly.

• Hiring and Recruitment. Spearheading efforts to attract and select the best, and most qualified, candidates to join our team, ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to our hiring process.

• Internal Affairs. Setting and maintaining a rigorous standard of conduct and ethics for all members of the Loveland Police Department.

• Training. Overseeing comprehensive in-service training, Colorado POST mandates, and external training programs to ensure our staff is well equipped with the latest skills, knowledge, and expertise.

• CALEA Accreditation. Ensuring compliance with the most stringent standards set by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). 

• Audits and Inspections. Conducting regular audits and staff inspections to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and protocols.
