The City of Loveland's historic preservation program is intended to protect, enhance and perpetuate the use of historic properties in the Loveland community.

Loveland's Historic Preservation Commission is an advisory commission to the Loveland City Council.  It comprises eight members (one high school student) appointed by the City Council. The Commission recommends historic landmark or historic district designations to the City Council.

The City of Loveland is a Certified Local Government authorized by the National Park Service and the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office. This status grants the City of Loveland access to funding set aside specifically for Certified Local Governments.

Historic building owners with a property registered with the program may benefit from financial incentives.

The program is voluntary, and requests for register listing must be approved and signed by the property owner.

Reconnaissance and intensive surveys of Loveland properties are data points that determine if a building or buildings within a property are eligible to be registered as an individual landmark, multiple landmarks, or a district that includes multiple properties.

Survey listings do not make the property automatically registered in the Loveland Historic Register.
