Project Information

Background

Madison Avenue is a critical corridor central to the City’s overall transportation system identified for design & improvements in the 2035 Transportation Master Plan.

The recent completion of E. 37th Street and a bridge across Dry Creek links Madison Avenue and Taft Avenue with access to US Highway 287. Existing conditions range from a standard, 4-lane section to a narrow 2-lane rural section lacking bike lanes and sidewalks.

Project Updates

  • Utility relocation works is starting.

  • Roadway construction will be bid spring/summer 2024 pending completion of right-of-way and easement negotiations.

  • Roadway construction is currently on schedule to begin in fall/winter 2024.

  • The project will begin at 37th Street, with work progressing south, to Silver Leaf Drive.

  • A new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of 37th Street and Madison Avenue. This will improve safety and aid in traffic flow.

  • 29th Street and Madison Avenue will remain as is, a signalized intersection controlled by a traffic light.

Goals

  • The redesign of this section of the Madison Avenue corridor, is to offer improved safety and transportation options for people, whether they are driving, walking, or biking.

  • Engineers will focus on all modes of travel, making improvements to travel lanes, bike lanes, and sidewalks along the corridor.

  • This project will also look at safety and design improvements at intersections in the area.

Community Benefits

  • Increased safety for all roadway users – improved traffic flow and designation of a safe north-south route for bicyclists and pedestrians.

  • Improved connectivity to US Highway 287 and beyond to Taft Avenue.

  • Effective use of City funds – project team is working to combine and coordinate roadway and utility improvements.
