Officer Dave Sloat, 962-2229
Excerpted from a Police dept. press release:
Members of the Loveland Senior Police Volunteer (LSPV) division will now conduct foot patrols in Loveland’s downtown business district.
These trained volunteers are tasked with creating a visual presence, reporting incidents to police dispatch, developing relationships with business owners, and documenting areas downtown that may have some issues. Uniformed police officers will join the Senior Police Volunteers whenever possible.
Downtown businesses requested that the police increase their visibility downtown and the LSPV is well-equipped to fulfill that need. Volunteers do not take enforcement action but can and will contact dispatch, when needed, so an officer can respond.
John Kindred is excited to expand his LSPV responsibilities. “We need to be present in the community to build relationships and increase communication, which will improve the quality of the downtown area,” he said. Kindred added that in the few weeks since the program started he has been able to talk to a lot of people and answer questions for citizens with concerns.
Loveland Police Chief Bob Ticer said, “Citizens and the police department must work together to build a partnership of trust to improve the quality of life for the residents of Loveland. These foot patrols will help further that relationship.”
LSPV volunteers consist of 23 men and women in uniform who have direct radio access to police dispatch. LSPV is full and not accepting applications at this time.
