Volunteer Training - Environmental Education - Wildlife

This free training is for volunteers interested in helping to present environmental education programs to 4th and 5th grade students, with the topic of Wildlife - Energy through the Biosphere. Programs will be held at Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park from mid-September through early November. Sessions are offered in either full-day (9am-2pm) or half-day (am or pm) format.

During training, volunteers are introduced to three 30-minute stations and two 45-minute stations that are presented during school field trips. Training covers information about each lesson and activities to guide student participation and interaction. Information is repeated to each student group as they rotate through stations, so volunteers do not need to learn all stations. Number of teaching days is dependent on teacher reservations but typically varies between 2-6 times per month. All Wildlife education volunteers are required to have a background check.

Other education program trainings will be offered on September 6 (Plants & Places - Grades 2-3) and September 8 (Critter Scene Investigation CSI - Grades PreK-2).
